Retrofitting of Fixed Barriers at LRT Stations
#11
...

Did LTA/SMRT even think about building HHPSDs all the way back in 2000? 1990? No, they had to wait 20 entire years just to build these HHPSDs. In fact, it took them a spate of suicides to actually get themselves convinced to build HHPSDs (that guy at Chinese Garden, at least 4 or 5 suicides at Bishan, etc). Heck, there was still one more suicide at Yio Chu Kang, while they were in the process of building those HHPSDs. As long as there are virtually no suicides on the LRT, the chances of HHPSDs being built will be a big 0.

BPLRT is operated by SMRT, while SK/PGLRT is operated by SBS Transit. Different tenders maybe...

For what? HHPSD was not designed to prevent suicide. It was designed to protect from accidental falls. If i really wanted to commit suicide at a train station, i can climb over the PSD...

If you climb at the HW/TW side of the station, chances are people may not even notice anything.

So what... neither the FHPSD or HHPSD Was designed to Prevent Suicides. Like I already said, HHPSD is to prevent accidental falls. If any of the stations need to have HHPSD installed (for BPLRT only), it would be cck. The Rest have simply Not enough Demand for PSDs.

LRT are automated systems. On MRT trains there is time for a T/Op to react to obstacles on the tracks. Not on the LRTs.

Track incursions are not very frequent on the LRTs, but when they do happen, it's more dangerous than on MRT tracks.
