Cross Island Line (CRL) / North Shore Line Discussion

LTA will build a major MRT line, the 50-km Cross Island Line (CRL), which will run across the span of Singapore. Starting from Changi, it will pass through Loyang, Pasir Ris, Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, before reaching Sin Ming. Continuing westwards, it will serve areas such as Bukit Timah, Clementi, West Coast, and terminate at Jurong Industrial Estate. Targeted to be completed by 2030, it will also provide commuters with another alternative for East-West travel to the current East-West Line. In addition, it will connect to all the other major lines to serve as a key transfer line, complementing the role currently fulfilled by the orbital Circle Line.  Therefore, the CRL will relieve the load on several of our existing lines, bringing greater comfort to all commuters and significantly shorten journey times.

1) Direct Alignment

- A 2km tunnel approximately 40m deep below the Central Catchment Nature Reserve with no physical surface structure.


2) Skirting Alignment

- A 9km tunnel under homes and businesses with Supporting ventilation facilities on the surface level

For me, this is another choice to Serangoon North and Hougang by rail as my house is along this line. My HDB unit will be raises.

CRL will be the most ambitious line ever! Finally a direct route to Punggol Waterfront, Ang Mo Kio, Sengkang and Changi Village!!!

But I'm still waiting for news on ERL and proposed North Coast Line... Undecided

I'm quite surprised by the CRL alignment. I was expecting something like a North Shore Line that connects towns like Yishun, Punggol and Pasir Ris (currently, there is an indirect connection between Woodlands/Yishun and Pasir Ris).

But with the CRL, we no longer need to pass through the city area.

Have to agree. If the northern section goes all the way northwards to WDL and eastwards to CGA, it will be better as ppl will now have a direct link to the airport and the new Punggol Waterfront and Downtown East, without having to change at TNM to CGA, CTH to PSR, etc.

Seems like CRL took part of the initial concept for NCL for its Changi - Punggol route, although I wouldn't mind if an eventual extension to Sembawang / Woodlands happens to relieve some load on 858. Aside from that, AMK - Hougang could also help with some rail links, since fastest route is either bus or going via CCL.

Honestly i think Island Line would be enough, or at least Pan-Island Line



This line is pretty interesting. LTA named it a "Major" MRT line so i m speculating it to be 6 car, most likely fully automated again.
