Singapore: Voices: A night bus service from the airport?

This may be feasible, but a reduction in maintenance time for the Changi Airport Line just to accomodate commuters to transfer to NR7 may have dire consequences (i.e. higher chances of train disruption).

An example of this would be the Standard Chartered Marathon in December 2011, where trains ran continuously for 48 hours and there was no maintenance time overnight.

I think if extend the operating hours hor, only special events and occasions then can. Big Grin

A shuttle bus to Expo, Tampines and Pasir Ris or
Expo, Tanah Merah is more feasible.

People don't need to worry about the 40min interval of NR7 if they live near there.

For example,

Changi Airport Shuttle

Service A
Changi Airport PTB 3 > CGA PTB 1 > CGA PTB 2 > Expo MRT > Tampines MRT > Pasir Ris MRT

Service B
Changi Airport PTB 3 > CGA PTB 1 > CGA PTB 2 > Expo MRT > Tanah Merah MRT > Bedok MRT

Operation : 9:30pm - 3:00am, 4:50am - 7:30am
Charge : $2.40 for child/senior citizen, $3 for adult

Since the budget terminal closed down, the shuttle to there will cease operation too. There will be more than enough shuttle bus to operate this route.

During public holidays where MRT lines are not going to extend operating hours, they can make use of this shuttle and board the feeder services in Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris.

Nope, the termination of the shuttle bus service to the Budget Terminal from Terminal 2 would not mean that they would be more buses to operate the route. The buses used for the Budget Terminal shuttle bus service are not owned by Changi Airport Group itself, rather it was chartered from Woodlands Transport.

Agree with SBS 8300H, airport demand for night services are pretty low because
  • People just returned home on a midnight flight; they want to go home fast
  • Travellers carry luggage plus nighttime; luggage may cause inconvenience particularly when they returned in the wee hours
  • Different people may go to different places; creating a bus route which follows a fixed route does not help all of the travellers
  • Travellers want to go home fast; night services' frequency may be too low
