Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) & Sengkang-Punggol LRT (SPLRT) Discussion
#11
I did a look up on Crystal Mover Trains. They can be found in many airports around the world, and will also be part of Macau LRT (similar to SG) when it opens in 2015.

I was wondering why wouldn't they have two-car configuration on SK LRT during the peak hours, since there's actually a demand for it. I was told on SGforums that they couldn't be coupled, but I've check other Crystal Movers that are exactly the same as the ones in SG can run in two-car configuration.

Also, I was wondering if the current stations (excluding Sengkang station) can accommodate 2-car configuration trains? The length of other stations seemed to be a pretty tight squeeze to accommodate such configuration.
P.S. I remember reading an news article on the chinese paper mentioning about possibilities on having 2-car configuration on SKLRT...But it mentioned that all stations will need to undergo upgrade in order to accommodate them.

haha...Sorry if I ask to much. =x

The current ATO setup stops the train in the middle of the platform. I'm not sure, but it may be necessary to move the stop point to the end too.

Two-car configuration is not needed, as long as the frequency can be maintained at a high rate.

but I think it might be better to run two car operations than to run more frequent trains. this will avoid bunching from the passenger habit of packing into every train that arrives and affecting schedules and speed of operations.

The lessened crowd at each platform will offset it.

They couldn't because the current platforms are too short. Tongue

BPLRT Set 112 the in-train display not working. Instead of scrolling "Bukit Panjang LRT" or Station details, it was displaying random messages.

Nope, it's long enough to accommodate 2 coupled units.

Yeah...
By just looking at it the station is too short to accommodate two sets. The only station that could accommodate is the Sengkang INT LRT station.

I can't imagine what will happen if they add in more more train service to the East Loop line. Now and then, the train will suddenly stops before entering the Sengkang station - Passengers in the train may fall down. Those who experienced it will know. It is like an almost car accident, but lucky the brakes were activated in time. The coordination between the East & West Loop train services should be revised.
