Doors opened on moving Victoria Line Tube near Brixton
An inquiry has been launched after the doors of a London Underground train were opened by the driver in error as it approached a red signal.

The southbound Victoria Line train was coming to rest in a tunnel outside Brixton station, south London, when the doors opened.

Transport for London (TfL) said the doors were immediately closed again.

It added that the driver confirmed the incident on Wednesday evening was the result of human error.

A TfL spokesman said: "London Underground has launched a full investigation after a southbound 67-stock Victoria line train approaching Brixton on Wednesday evening unexpectedly opened its doors as it came to rest at a red signal.

"The train was checked following the incident and no customers were affected."

Services were delayed by about five minutes as a result.

What do you think? Will it happen here, and what if it did happen here?

The Victoria Line 1967 Stock did not have Correct Side Door Enable, which means the doors can be operated anytime, anywhere. Being controlled via ATO, the driver could have felt the train stopping, and assumed that it was docked in the station...

So dangerous... So if it happened here, maybe everybody would get off the train at the next station? And that's what the "Please do not lean against the train doors." announcement is for.

Wasn't there a door opening incident in the Circle Line last year or something? Whatever it is, falling out of the train is so not funny.

Probe into Circle Line 'open train door' claim
Thu, Apr 22, 2010
The Straits Times
By Maria Almenoar

TRAIN operator SMRT is investigating a complaint that a door on one of its new Circle Line trains opened while it was travelling between stations.

A passenger, who wanted to be known only as Miss E. Goh, 19, said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon - the first day of operations for 11 newly opened Circle Line stations.

The teaching assistant said she was travelling on a train heading from Paya Lebar station towards Bishan station when the carriage door behind her opened, creating a gap of about 30cm.

Miss Goh, who was with a few friends, said the door stayed open for a few seconds. 'We didn't scream because we were more in shock than anything else,' she said.

'All I could say was, 'Oh my God, the door is open',' said the teenager, who was headed to a concert at Republic Polytechnic in Woodlands.

She added that after a few seconds, a friend pulled the door shut.

While none of her friends was injured or lost any items through the gap, Miss Goh claimed that no alarm sounded, and the train did not stop.

SMRT said that it was looking into the claim and has isolated the train that she was travelling on based on her ez-link card details.

Its spokesman said: 'SMRT views this claim seriously, and we will thoroughly investigate the matter.'

She said that tests were carried out on the train last night to determine if there was a problem. The spokesman added that trains on the Circle Line are equipped with many fail-safe features to ensure passenger safety.

For example, the Door Interlock Relay, a system available on all modern railway lines, ensures that trains will not be able to move off if the train doors are not properly closed.

In addition, the doors of the Circle Line trains are equipped with mechanical latches that prevent them from being forced open by more than 10cm, she said.

The Circle Line trains are made by French trainmaker Alstom and are driverless, just like those on the North-East Line.

The last time a major safety fault occurred on a rail system here was in 2002, when a wheel fell off a Bukit Panjang LRT train.

SMRT's subsidiary SLRT was fined $10,000 over the incident.

Then is it possible to have a system where ATP would emer. brake when trn drs open during travelling. So tat means emer brakes will occur if codes are above 0/0 and sr is open.

It is possible, however the Victoria Line uses a very basic fixed block system to allow ATO operation, unlike the Central Line's. This system does not have any door interlocks. Correct Side Door Enable is also not installed.
