Mainland Builds Driverless Trains for Hong Kong

A metro line with driverless trains will soon be put into operation in Hong Kong this year, CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. announced on Thursday.

The manufacturer said that "Type A trains" would be the first fully automated heavy metro trains in China, and would use 'independently developed' technology.

The system of automatic metro trains means that the trains run automatically, as does the operation of the doors. Furthermore, obstacle detection and emergency situations are dealt with without any regulatory requirement for staff to be present on board.
