A typical peak period scenario in an MRT station includes heavy boarding and alighting activities, crowded trains despite decent frequencies, especially in interchange stations. Travel time is also usually longer than the what signboards in platforms stipulate given the huge crowd and other factors like train bunching.

The KTM Singapore sector route is one of the last few sectors who are still using the token system as a form of safety to allow only one train into one block section. Such systems are now in the midst of modernisation - double tracking and improved signalling system. The only sector in KTM still using such system is the east coast sector (Gemas - Tumpat). In this technology-driven world, the old has to make way for the new. There will be no more token passing anymore, since the Singapore sector had closed due to the agreement between the two Governments.
